Coimbatore men held for ₹46.5 lakh digital arrest scam in Karaikudi

A senior citizen in Karaikudi, Tamil Nadu, allegedly lost ₹46.50 lakh after fraudsters threatened him with a fake digital arrest. Cybercrime police have arrested 2 men from Coimbatore in connection with the case.

According to police, the elderly man, who lives in Karaikudi in Sivaganga district, received a phone call from individuals claiming to be Bengaluru police officials. They alleged that his Aadhaar card had been misused for illegal activities and threatened to place him under “digital arrest”.

The callers demanded money, claiming the payment would help clear him of the alleged charges. Believing their claims, the senior citizen transferred ₹46.50 lakh to bank accounts provided by the fraudsters.

He later realised that he had been cheated and filed a complaint with the district cybercrime police wing.

After registering a case and investigating the complaint, police traced and arrested 2 suspects from Coimbatore. The accused have been identified as Hitesh Sanashetti, 33, and Syed Rahman, 44.
