105 Indians Among Over 3,000 Arrested in Cambodia Cybercrime Crackdown

Cambodian authorities have conducted extensive raids across 138 locations over a 15-day period, leading to the arrest of over 3,000 individuals in connection with widespread cybercrime activities. Among those apprehended, a significant number – 105 individuals – were identified as Indian citizens.

The arrests follow a high-level meeting between India and Cambodia held last month, suggesting a coordinated effort to combat cross-border cyber fraud. The Indian Government is currently engaged in discussions with Cambodian authorities to facilitate the return of its citizens involved in these cases.

This large-scale operation highlights Cambodia’s intensified efforts to crack down on cybercrime syndicates, which often exploit vulnerable individuals through various online scams, including fraudulent call centers and investment schemes. The involvement of a large number of foreign nationals, particularly from India, underscores the international nature of these criminal networks.

“The arrests are a result of our continuous efforts to eradicate cybercrime and protect both our citizens and those from other nations who fall victim to these illicit operations,” stated a Cambodian official.

The Indian government’s engagement with Cambodian authorities is aimed at ensuring the welfare of its citizens and navigating the legal processes for their repatriation, while also cooperating on international efforts to combat cybercrime.
