Ms. Cox will officially take on the role starting April 13, 2026, overseeing the company’s global legal and governance operations. Announcing the appointment, CEO John Furner said, “To lead Global Governance for a company of our scale and complexity, you need a leader who has thrived in the most demanding environments. Erin is exactly that leader.” He added that her expertise in legal strategy and operational execution will help Walmart navigate the evolving retail landscape while staying aligned with its mission.
Cox joins Walmart from Kirkland & Ellis LLP, where she has been a partner since 2021 in the Government, Regulatory & Internal Investigations Practice Group. She earlier served as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, handling cases related to white-collar crime, national security, cybercrime and public corruption. She was also appointed to and later chaired the Attorney General’s Advisory Committee. Before that, she worked as Executive Managing Director at Stroz Friedberg, leading its global incident response practice and spent nearly 10 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney.
