Highlighting the continued surge in digital payments, Unified Payments Interface (UPI) logged 22.64 billion transactions in March 2026, according to the Department of Financial Services (DFS).
In a post on X, the department said, “UPI achieves 22.64 Bn transaction count in March’26! Thank you, India, for embracing digital payments and driving this revolution forward.” It also urged users to keep supporting the growth of digital transactions, adding, “Let’s continue the journey of transforming the way we transact!”
Data shared by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) further showed a steady rise in usage. UPI transactions increased from 20.39 billion in February 2026 to 22.64 billion in March 2026.
The total transaction value also saw a significant jump, reaching ₹29.53 lakh crore in March compared to ₹26.84 lakh crore in February.
On a daily basis, the average transaction count stood at 730 million in March, slightly higher than 728 million recorded in February. The average daily transaction value was ₹95,243 crore.
The data also reflected strong year-on-year growth. Transaction volumes grew by 24%, while transaction value increased by 19% in March 2026.
UPI, developed by NPCI, has become one of the most widely used digital payment systems in India. It enables real-time money transfers through mobile applications and banking platforms, driving the country’s shift towards a digital economy.
