Elon Musk’s SpaceX and Airtel and Reliance Jio announced their strategic alliances on Wednesday, which were welcomed by the Satcom Industry Association-India (SIA-India).
“These collaborations will accelerate broadband expansion and play a crucial role in enhancing connectivity across industries such as ports, rural enterprises, mining, oilfields, villages, and India’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZs), where satellite technology can deliver substantial value,” Anil Prakash, director general, SIA-india, said.
According to him, these collaborations would boost socioeconomic development, promote digital inclusiveness, and open up new commercial prospects in industries like agriculture, e-governance, healthcare, and education by enhancing current terrestrial networks.
The SIA-India chief’s remarks come after SpaceX, the Musk-led aerospace business, reached two different agreements with Sunil Mittal’s Bharti Airtel and Mukesh Ambani’s Jio Platforms to provide Starlink’s broadband internet services to India.
India’s space economy is expected to reach USD 44 billion by 2033, with satellite internet acting as a major facilitator, according to IN-SPACe’s Decadal Vision.
