Dr. Vivek Raghavan and Dr. Pratyush Kumar formed the Bengaluru-based firm Sarvam AI in 2023 with the audacious goal of creating AI that resonates with India’s spirit. According to the origin of the word, Sarvam means “everything” in Sanskrit. This demonstrates the company’s goal to develop broad, inclusive AI solutions that respect the language and cultural diversity of India.
Sarvam is collaborating closely with the Indian government and has the support of prominent investors. It is creating corporate solutions, voice systems, and fundamental language models with the goal of making AI really Indian at its core.
In a recent development and recognition of Sarvam’s efforts, Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, announced over the weekend that Sarvam AI had been chosen to create India’s first indigenous AI foundational model, which would be a significant milestone in the nation’s AI innovation ecosystem. This announcement was made during the launch of the guidelines and portal for the Electronics Component Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS), which is a significant step towards strengthening India’s electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Vaishnaw also discussed India’s progress in data-driven solutions and artificial intelligence. According to him, four AI tools created by IITs will soon be made available, and 350 datasets have already been uploaded to AI Kosh. He added that in order to fortify the electronics ecosystem, techno-legal solutions are being created.
