PM Narendra Modi’s watch featuring a rare 1947 one rupee coin goes viral

A unique watch worn by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has caught the attention of enthusiasts after images of the timepiece circulated widely online. The watch stands out because it features an original 1947 one rupee coin embedded in its dial, a detail that has sparked significant interest.

The timepiece is priced between Rs 55000 and Rs 60000 and is crafted by the Jaipur Watch Company. It is a 43 mm stainless steel model powered by a Japanese Miyota movement and is named Roman Baagh. The design includes the image of a walking tiger symbolising India’s path to independence and reflecting the spirit of the Make in India initiative.

The watch’s description notes, “This One Rupee Coin holds significance as it was the last coin minted under the British Rule. It was minted only in the years 1946 and 1947.” The coin serves as the centrepiece of the watch and adds to its historical and cultural value.

Roman Baagh is available in four versions which include golden and silver cases paired with Roman or Devanagari numerals. It features a sapphire crystal with internal anti reflective coating and a transparent back. The watch is water resistant up to 5 ATM.

Reports from a lifestyle publication mention that PM Modi has been seen wearing this watch at several important events from September through November. The combination of craftsmanship, cultural symbolism and historical significance has contributed to the growing interest in the timepiece.
