Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has reached out to Wipro founder chairman Azim Premji, requesting his support in tackling the heavy traffic congestion on Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road corridor, especially at the Iblur junction. In a letter dated September 19, 2025, the Chief Minister commended Wipro’s significant contribution to the state’s IT sector and socio-economic growth while pointing out that the current traffic density is leading to long delays and affecting the quality of life for commuters and residents.
Siddaramaiah proposed exploring limited vehicular access through the Wipro campus under strict security and consent guidelines. According to initial assessments mentioned in the letter, mobility experts believe this arrangement could reduce congestion by nearly 30 percent during peak hours. “Your support will go a long way in easing bottlenecks, enhancing commuter experience, and contributing to a more efficient and livable Bengaluru,” Siddaramaiah wrote to Wipro founder chairman Premji.
The Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) has repeatedly raised concerns about the economic impact of traffic bottlenecks. It highlighted that IT companies incurred losses of more than 28 million dollars (Rs 225 crore) in a single day in August 2022, when employees were stuck in traffic for over five hours.
The corridor between Central Silk Board and KR Puram employs more than half a million professionals, and when support staff are included, the number reaches nearly one million across the 17 kilometre stretch. ORRCA has identified traffic congestion as a critical issue for this area. The Chief Minister urged Wipro to collaborate with the government in piloting a solution that could provide much-needed relief to one of Bengaluru’s busiest technology hubs.
