iPhone 19e may debut in 2028 with advanced LTPO OLED display upgrade

As Apple continues to refine its entry-level iPhone lineup, early reports are already pointing to major display improvements in future models.

According to industry sources, Apple is planning to equip the upcoming iPhone 19e, expected to launch in 2028, with an LTPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) TFT OLED display. This would mark a significant upgrade over the LTPS OLED panel used in the iPhone 17e. LTPO technology is known for better power efficiency and support for a wider variable refresh rate range.

Reports also suggest that Apple is testing LTPO+ technology. This could be introduced in a future iPhone Air model, also expected around 2028, as well as in the company’s rumoured foldable phone planned for the second half of this year.

Additionally, the iPhone Air model may feature “Color Filter on Encap (CoE)” technology. This innovation removes polarisers to reduce screen reflections in bright outdoor conditions and could help Apple design thinner devices. However, the company has not officially confirmed these developments.

In the nearer term, the iPhone 18e is expected to bring noticeable changes. It may include Apple’s Dynamic Island feature instead of the traditional notch. The device could also run on the A20 chipset, which is likely to be built on a 2nm process.

Earlier this month, Apple launched the iPhone 17e in India at a starting price of ₹64,900 for the 256GB variant. The smartphone is available in Black, Soft Pink, and White. It features a 6.1-inch (1,170×2,532 pixels) Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate, True Tone, and up to 800 nits peak brightness. The device is powered by the A19 chip, which includes a 6-core CPU, 4-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine.

While details about the iPhone 19e remain speculative, the expected display upgrades indicate Apple’s focus on improving performance and efficiency in its future devices.
