India Unveils Rs 15000 Crore Ring Road Project Linking Maharashtra to Karnataka, Bypassing Goa’s Heartland

In a bold move to reimagine regional connectivity, the government has unveiled an expansive new infrastructure project set to transform the travel experience across the western coast. A majestic ring road, costing between Rs 12000 crore and Rs 15000 crore, will soon weave its way from Maharashtra to Karnataka, gently circumventing the core of Goa. The grand vision was shared by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways during a public address in South Goa.

Responding to earnest appeals from Goa’s leadership for an alternative route to ease the swelling traffic on national highways, the minister announced that this outer corridor would originate from Patradevi near the Maharashtra border and journey southwards, bypassing Goa’s central arteries. “The Union ministry of road transport and highways is considering a ring road from Patradevi to Karnataka which will run through the outer side of Goa, avoiding to cut through the middle of the state, to decongest the national highway,” he declared.

The announcement was made during the foundation ceremony of a striking new observatory tower that will soon rise beside the iconic Zuari Bridge. Designed under a public private partnership model, this structure is inspired by none other than Paris’s Eiffel Tower and will offer breathtaking views of Goa and its shimmering coastline. “I had suggested that the tower should be like the Eiffel Tower from where you can see Goa and the ocean,” said the minister. He also emphasized the tower’s potential as a magnet for global tourists and a source of significant revenue through GST collections from ticketed entries.

The tower is also set to showcase Goa’s historic struggle for liberation through immersive storytelling, enhanced by modern technology. “We should tell the history in a transparent manner with the use of technology,” he added.

Alongside the ring road, the minister rolled out a slew of other big-ticket developments including:

Rs 1200 crore for a four-lane road from Cuncolim to Benurdem

Rs 2000 crore for four-laning from Karnataka border to Mollem

Rs 1000 crore to expand the Mollem to Khandekar stretch

Rs 1200 crore for a brand new bridge near Borim beside the existing Zuari bridge.
