HARMAN International Names Christian Sobottka as New President and CEO

HARMAN International, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics, has announced the appointment of Christian Sobottka as its new President and CEO, effective April 1. He succeeds Michael Mauser, who will step down from the role on March 31 after serving the company for over 27 years.

Currently the President of HARMAN’s Automotive Division, Sobottka brings more than 25 years of experience in the international automotive industry. Under his leadership, HARMAN’s Automotive Division underwent a major transformation, with a focus on product innovation, software development, and creating advanced in-cabin experiences. Sobottka has also secured key partnerships in the automotive sector, positioning HARMAN for future growth.

Before joining HARMAN in 2021, Sobottka held senior leadership roles at Robert Bosch, specializing in automotive technologies. His extensive background makes him well-suited to lead the company into its next phase of development.

Michael Mauser, who has been at the helm of HARMAN since the Samsung acquisition in 2017, guided the company through numerous challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the global semiconductor shortage. During his tenure, Mauser oversaw significant revenue growth, achieving a record $11 billion in sales and a $45 billion backlog in automotive business.

In his farewell statement, Mauser said, “After nearly three decades with HARMAN and aligned with our diligent succession planning process, I have decided to step away to spend more time with my family and explore new opportunities.”

New CEO Christian Sobottka expressed his enthusiasm for the future: “Building on our legacy of innovation and excellence, I look forward to working with our talented teams to drive the next phase of growth and continue delivering exceptional value to our customers and partners.”

Young Sohn, Chairman of the Board, praised Mauser’s leadership and expressed confidence in Sobottka’s ability to guide HARMAN to future success, stating, “We are confident that Christian’s extensive experience and proven track record make him the ideal leader to guide HARMAN into the future.”

Additionally, Dave Rogers, President of HARMAN’s Lifestyle Division, will join the Board of Directors.
