Gujarat launches AI powered NETRAM control room to boost real time policing

Gujarat has introduced a major upgrade to its policing system with the launch of the AI powered NETRAM Police Control Room in Surat. The facility was inaugurated by the state’s Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi and marks a major shift towards technology driven law enforcement. The NETRAM system is designed to improve real time monitoring and strengthen the speed and accuracy of crime detection.

Surat Police Commissioner Anupam Singh Gehlot explained that the control room is connected to 1640 advanced cameras placed across the city. These include automatic number plate detection cameras that help track suspect vehicles, red light violation cameras that enforce traffic rules, and a wide network of general AI enabled cameras that support broad surveillance and analysis.

The key feature of the NETRAM system is its artificial intelligence layer that enables proactive policing. Commissioner Gehlot said the control room is linked to an extensive database of known and wanted criminals. Police have uploaded crucial information and images of these individuals into the system. The AI technology continuously scans live video feeds and compares them with the stored criminal data. If the system identifies any movement or sighting of a wanted person, it immediately sends an alert to the control room team.

This ability to detect suspects in real time allows officers to act quickly and prevents crime before it happens. The NETRAM system marks a shift from reactive policing to a more predictive and preventive approach, aiming to create a safer environment for the people of Surat.
