Google introduces Emergency Live Video to strengthen real time support for Android users

Google has announced a new safety feature for Android that lets emergency responders request a live video feed during calls or texts seeking help. The feature, known as Emergency Live Video, is intended to give dispatchers real time visual information in situations where a caller may not be able to explain the emergency.

This includes car crashes, medical issues or fast moving fires. According to Google, clearer visuals can help responders take faster decisions and send the right kind of assistance when verbal communication becomes difficult in stressful moments.

Under this system, a dispatcher can send a video request to an Android device during an active emergency call or text conversation. Users will see an on screen prompt and can decide whether they want to share their camera feed. If they agree, the live video starts immediately with end to end encryption.

As per the company’s press release, users stay fully in control and can stop the video at any moment with a single tap. The feature needs no setup and works through Google Play services on devices running Android 8 or later.

Google said the feature can help responders check crash impact, identify safety risks, confirm medical symptoms or understand environmental dangers before they reach the location. It also allows dispatchers to guide callers through urgent steps, including CPR or basic first aid, with more accuracy because they can watch the caller’s actions instead of depending only on spoken instructions.

Emergency Live Video adds to Android’s growing set of safety tools such as Emergency Location Service, Car Crash Detection, Fall Detection and Satellite SOS for communication in remote areas. Google said these tools aim to reduce the time between an emergency happening and responders getting the right information.

The feature is launching today in the US and select parts of Germany and Mexico. Google has teamed up with public safety agencies in these regions for the rollout and is also working with more agencies globally to expand access.
