An everyday waste audit at home became the turning point in Pankti Pandey’s life, eventually inspiring a sustainability movement that now reaches four lakh people across India. The former ISRO scientist began by examining the waste generated in her own household, sorting through grocery bags, bottles, and kitchen scraps. The realisation that much of it could be avoided pushed her to rethink her habits.
This moment led to the creation of Zero Waste Adda in 2021. What began as a personal experiment became a platform where Pankti simplifies zero waste living through practical, easy to follow lessons. Over time, her effort has grown into a community of people learning to reduce waste and adopt mindful everyday practices.
Pankti started by making small changes in her home. She used reusable containers, composted kitchen waste, and prepared natural cleaning solutions. These consistent steps helped her lower her environmental impact in a meaningful way.
Today, she continues to drive change through her Instagram community, Zero Waste Adda. Her content covers slow fashion, mindful eating with local foods such as millets, and simple zero waste routines. She explains her ideas through science based tips, do it yourself hacks, composting guidance, and practical ways to cut down on plastic and food waste.
With more than four lakh followers and recognition as a Green Champion at the National Creators Awards 2024, Pankti shows how social media can be used for positive environmental action. She focuses on reducing and reusing instead of promoting consumerism. Her content encourages people to address climate change through steps like installing solar panels, choosing second hand furniture, planning plastic free travel, and taking sustainable family vacations.
She highlights that meaningful change does not require global summits. It begins at home through everyday decisions that reduce waste and support sustainable living. Her journey is a reminder that small actions, taken consistently, can collectively support a healthier planet.
