ED carries out search operations in 10 states over alleged medical college bribery case

A major enforcement action unfolded on Thursday as the Enforcement Directorate began search operations at multiple locations across the country in an alleged bribery case linked to medical colleges and government officials. The searches are underway at 15 sites in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

According to officials, the investigation is based on an FIR filed on June 30, 2025 by the Central Bureau of Investigation. The FIR claims that bribes were paid to government officials, including personnel from the National Medical Commission, in return for confidential information related to inspections of medical colleges.

The case alleges that inspection details were secretly shared with key managerial staff of several medical colleges and with intermediaries. This confidential information is said to have helped the accused influence inspection parameters and secure approvals for running academic courses at these institutions.

The findings point to significant weaknesses in the approval process for educational institutions. The details raise questions about the reliability of regulatory oversight and the possible impact on the standards of medical education.

Seven premises linked to different medical colleges are under search across states. In addition to institutional locations, the ED is also conducting raids at the premises of several private individuals named as accused in the CBI FIR. These individuals are believed to have played important roles in coordinating or facilitating the alleged bribery operations.

The wide scope of the raids indicates the scale of the suspected network. Investigators are examining institutional assets as well as personal properties to identify the full chain of those involved.

The ED’s operation is part of a broader effort to address corruption within the medical education sector. The action follows leads provided by the ongoing CBI investigation. Officials are focused on tracing the flow of illegal funds and mapping the alleged network that links college administrators and government officials.
