Cybercriminals Impersonate Delhi Joint Commissioner in Facebook Scam

In a startling incident of online impersonation, cybercriminals have created a fraudulent Facebook profile for Madhur Verma, the Joint Commissioner of Delhi’s Anti-Corruption Branch. Reports indicate that this fake profile was utilized by the scammers to deceive individuals into purchasing furniture and electronics at supposedly “discounted prices.”

The Cybercriminals reportedly contacted Commissioner Verma’s friends, posing as him and offering various household items for sale, under the pretense that a “CRPF friend” was being relocated and needed to quickly offload his possessions. The messages were crafted to seem friendly and credible, aiming to ensnare victims.

In response, Joint Commissioner Verma has decided to file a formal complaint with the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit on Tuesday. He has also taken to social media to inform the public and caution them against falling victim to scams operating under his name.

Joint  Commissioner Verma has urged the community to remain alert and to report any suspicious activities without delay. He emphasized the importance of verifying any unusual communications that claim to be from him, particularly those related to financial transactions or purchases.

“This is not the first time. Fraudsters have already created three fake profiles of the senior officer. Two of them were taken down earlier, but this marks the third such attempt to misuse his identity,” as per sources.

Supreme Court’s YouTube Channel Compromised

Last year, the official YouTube channel of the Supreme Court was compromised, now displaying the name “Ripple” instead of “Supreme Court of India.” This troubling cyberattack has resulted in the replacement of standard legal videos with content related to cryptocurrency.

The incident has sparked worries regarding the online security of government digital platforms, prompting efforts to recover the channel and restore its original content. In the meantime, authorities are looking into the breach to track down those responsible for this event.
