Amazon’s AWS formed a new group focused on agentic artificial intelligence to help users and customers automate more of their lives

New group on agentic artificial intelligence has been established by Amazon.com to assist users and customers in automating more aspects of their life, according to an internal email seen by media on Tuesday.

According to the email from AWS CEO Matt Garman, Swami Sivasubramanian will serve as the new group’s leader. “Agentic AI has the potential to be the next multi-billion business for AWS,” Garman stated. According to the email, Sivasubramanian, who was formerly vice president of AI and data, would answer directly to Garman.

The goal of agentic AI is to automate tasks for users, eliminating the need for them to ask the systems to perform things for them. When Amazon announced last week that an improved version of Alexa, its speech service, will be available to select users later this month, they highlighted some of those features.

“We have the opportunity to help our customers innovate even faster and unlock more possibilities, and I firmly believe that AI agents are core to this next wave of innovation,” Garman wrote.

A request for comment was not immediately answered by an Amazon representative.

AWS senior vice president Peter DeSantis also revealed a number of other reorganizations inside AWS, which has long served as Amazon’s profit center, in an internal email on Tuesday. These include relocating the AI teams Bedrock and SageMaker, bringing hardware engineering under the computing division, and forming a new group that combines commerce and customer experience.

DeSantis said that the modifications will “accelerate innovation.”

Amazon’s stock, which is located in Seattle, fell less than 1% to $204.81.
