In a major crackdown on cyber fraud, the Cyber Crime Branch in Ahmedabad has arrested 6 individuals for their alleged role in a cryptocurrency investment scam that duped a victim of ₹57.9 lakh. A key आरोपी, believed to be operating from Dubai, is still absconding.
According to officials, the case was registered at the Cyber Crime Police Station under relevant sections of the BNS and the Information Technology Act. The fraud began when the accused befriended the complainant on Facebook and later convinced him to invest in cryptocurrency by promising high returns.
The victim was asked to download a mobile application named ‘CBOE US’ and invest in USDT. Investigators revealed that the accused shared multiple bank account details and gradually siphoned off ₹57.9 lakh through a series of transactions.
The case came to light after the victim filed a complaint, prompting a detailed probe involving both technical analysis and human intelligence. During the investigation, police uncovered a larger network operating across multiple states, involving account holders, middlemen, and handlers.
Officials said the accused arranged bank accounts, transported individuals to Delhi for financial activities, and facilitated the movement of the defrauded funds. The Dubai-based accused, identified as Mayur Savaliya, is believed to have coordinated the operation and shared bank account details with the syndicate in India.
The 6 arrested individuals have been identified as Tahir Fezmohammed Belim (42), Adnan Liaqatbhai Sheikh (28), Ajaz Jilanibhai Sheikh (34), Omkar Bharati Goswami (28), Maqsud Rafiqbhai Mirza (39), and Sunny Ashok Kumar Maggo (38).
Police revealed that 5 bank accounts were used in the fraud, with 4 of them linked to at least 41 cyber fraud complaints across different states. These accounts recorded transactions of around ₹1.5 crore. The accounts were reportedly opened under entities such as Crystal Interior Designers Private Limited across multiple banks, including Bandhan Bank, ICICI Bank, and Yes Bank.
Further investigation is ongoing to trace the complete money trail, identify more victims, and arrest the absconding accused. Authorities are also examining the involvement of others who may have supported the operation.
