Adidas Data Breach Exposes Customer Info Through Third-Party Hack

The German sportswear company Adidas has reported a data breach following a hack of a customer service provider, resulting in the theft of some customer data.

“adidas recently became aware that an unauthorized external party obtained certain consumer data through a third-party customer service provider,” the company said.

“We immediately took steps to contain the incident and launched a comprehensive investigation, collaborating with leading information security experts.”

Adidas clarified that the compromised information did not include payment details or passwords of the affected customers, as the attackers only accessed contact information.

The company has informed the appropriate authorities about this security breach and will notify those impacted by the incident.

“adidas is in the process of informing potentially affected consumers as well as appropriate data protection and law enforcement authorities consistent with applicable law,” it added.

“We remain fully committed to protecting the privacy and security of our consumers, and sincerely regret any inconvenience or concern caused by this incident.”

Adidas has not yet provided additional information about this event, such as the name of the affected service provider, the date the breach was discovered, the number of individuals impacted, or whether its own network was breached during the attack.

Earlier this month, Adidas revealed data breaches affecting customers in Turkey and South Korea who reached out to the customer service center in 2024 or prior. The compromised data in these incidents includes names, email addresses, phone numbers, birth dates, and addresses.

In June 2018, Adidas announced another breach where unknown attackers accessed contact information, usernames, and encrypted passwords of “a few million” customers who used the company’s U.S. website.
