The CII Pune GCC Forum, created four months ago, has set a clear plan to position Maharashtra as a major global capability centre hub. The Forum held its core committee meeting on Saturday at the CII Pune Zonal Office, where senior leaders from more than 35 GCCs gathered to build a unified roadmap focused on skills, talent and academic partnerships. The Forum was formed to serve as the main industry voice for GCCs in the state and to help build an ecosystem that can scale to global standards.
Forum Chairman Amit Talwar, Director at AGCO India, said that the platform was created to bring a strategic and unified voice for GCCs. He said, “The platform was formed to give GCCs a unified strategic voice backed by clear objectives, data driven advocacy and a collaborative approach.” He also said that the Forum aims to support existing centres and build investor confidence for companies planning high value global work in Maharashtra.
The growing demand for talent was the central topic of discussion. The CII Pune GCC Forum estimates that Maharashtra will need at least four thousand specialised professionals in the coming years as more global companies set up digital engineering and research centres in the state.
Forum Vice Chairman Niket Karajagi said that the role of academia will be crucial to help Maharashtra remain a preferred location for GCCs. He said, “The forum is engaging with higher education institutions and EdTech partners in a structured manner to develop future capability at scale,” and added that the curriculum must match real industry requirements if Maharashtra wants to lead this sector.
The Forum will work through five groups that will focus on policy and ease of business, talent and skilling, innovation and emerging technologies, branding and investment promotion, and best practices and benchmarking. Each group will deliver quarterly outcomes and contribute to the annual strategy.
Forum Vice Chairman Indraneel Chitale said that strong policy alignment and governance support will be necessary for long term success. He said, “The forum will work closely with the govt to enable investor friendly frameworks and ease of doing business measures.” He added that when industry and govt work towards a common direction, the ecosystem grows faster and supports everyone.
With focused leadership, institutional support and a strong commitment to academic collaboration, the CII Pune GCC Forum aims to help Maharashtra become one of the most competitive destinations for global capability centres.
