Perplexity begins a major upgrade for its users as CEO, Aravind Srinivas confirms that the platform integrates OpenAI’s new GPT 5.1 model for all Pro and Max subscribers. The confirmation comes shortly after OpenAI introduces the advanced system, which promises smoother conversations, stronger reasoning and better personalisation.
Srinivas shares the update in a post on X, saying, “GPT 5.1 on Perplexity for all Pro and Max users. Kimi K2 is coming very soon.”
OpenAI unveils GPT 5.1 earlier this week and highlights improvements in intelligence, adaptability and communication style. The model comes in two versions: GPT 5.1 Instant, which delivers quick responses and easy access and GPT 5.1 Thinking, which focuses on deeper reasoning and more persistent problem solving.
According to OpenAI, GPT 5.1 provides clearer answers with fewer vague expressions. The company says the new release offers a more natural tone and more consistent follow-through on instructions.
GPT 5.1 Instant, now the model used most often in ChatGPT, offers a warmer and more conversational experience and responds more reliably to tasks. GPT 5.1 Thinking supports users who need advanced reasoning and it remains easier to understand, faster on simple prompts and steadier during longer or more complex challenges.
OpenAI notes that GPT 5.1 Thinking gives clearer explanations and avoids unclear or undefined wording.
OpenAI Co-Founder Sam Altman confirms the launch in a post on X and calls it a “nice upgrade”. He says he is especially impressed by improvements in instruction handling and adaptive thinking. Altman adds that the enhanced intelligence and communication style are also notable in this version. He also points out that users now have more control over how ChatGPT replies, with presets such as default, friendly, efficient, professional, candid or quirky, along with more options to adjust tone.
