Adani Group enters battery energy storage with India’s largest single-site project

The Adani Group has announced its entry into the Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) market with a massive 1,126 MW / 3,530 MWh project, which will become India’s largest single-site energy storage facility and one of the biggest in the world. Scheduled for completion by March 2026, the project will feature over 700 BESS containers, placing Adani among the leading global players investing in large-scale clean energy storage.

With a total storage capacity of 3,530 MWh, the system can sustain the full 1,126 MW power output for three hours, offering a major boost to India’s renewable energy infrastructure. “Energy storage is the cornerstone of a renewable-powered future. With this historic project, we are not only setting global benchmarks but also reinforcing our commitment to India’s energy independence and sustainability. This initiative will enable us to deliver reliable, clean, and affordable energy solutions at scale,” said Gautam Adani, Chairman of Adani Group.

Located at Khavda, part of the world’s largest renewable energy complex, the BESS installation will use advanced lithium-ion batteries and cutting-edge energy management technology to optimize performance. The integration will support peak load management, energy shifting, and grid stability, making it a crucial component in decarbonizing the power sector.

This project marks a major milestone in India’s clean energy transition, strengthening energy security and paving the way for round-the-clock renewable electricity. By enabling efficient storage and dispatch of solar and wind energy, the project ensures that renewable power remains reliable even during non-generation hours.

Beyond this flagship initiative, the Adani Group plans to expand its BESS capacity further — targeting 15 GWh by March 2027 and an ambitious 50 GWh within the next five years. These future deployments aim to ease peak load pressures, reduce transmission congestion, and minimize solar curtailment, further accelerating India’s decarbonization efforts.

The project’s scale and advanced design highlight Adani Group’s growing leadership in sustainable infrastructure and reinforce India’s position in the global clean energy landscape.
