Flipkart launches pilot programme to test long-haul electric trucks for freight logistics

Ecommerce leader Flipkart has launched a pilot programme to test the use of long-haul electric trucks in freight logistics, marking a major step in its commitment to sustainable transportation. The initiative comes as the company’s electric delivery fleet has doubled over the past year, surpassing 20,000 vehicles.

The pilot, introduced in partnership with Golden Aero Logistics, will assess the feasibility of electric vehicles for medium-distance freight on the Delhi-Jaipur corridor. Flipkart is using a retrofitted Kalyani electric truck for this trial. The company said the project aims to evaluate the truck’s operational performance, energy efficiency, and turnaround time to determine the practicality of using EVs beyond last-mile deliveries.

Flipkart stated that this initiative aligns with its broader goal of achieving a 100 per cent electric last-mile delivery fleet by 2030. The company’s expanded EV fleet now operates across several major cities, including Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Lucknow.

Currently, more than 70 per cent of grocery deliveries on Flipkart are completed using electric vehicles, significantly reducing the platform’s carbon footprint and contributing to its sustainability goals.

“Our new electric truck pilot for long-haul routes is the next frontier. We are building for the future, proving that 100 per cent electrification is possible from our fulfilment centres all the way to the customer’s doorstep,” said Hemant Badri, Senior Vice President, Head of Minutes and Supply Chain, Customer Experience and ReCommerce at Flipkart Group.

To further strengthen EV adoption and awareness, Flipkart has also launched a nationwide EV Roadshow in collaboration with OEM partners Revolt and Bajaj, covering multiple cities to encourage wider confidence in electric mobility.

Through these efforts, Flipkart continues to advance towards a more sustainable and efficient logistics ecosystem, integrating innovation and green technology into its supply chain.
