Avadi police arrest two for selling bank accounts to cyber fraudsters

The Cyber Crime Wing of the Avadi City Police has arrested two individuals accused of opening bank accounts and handing them over to online fraudsters in exchange for commission.

According to police reports, Satish, aged 46 and a resident of Korattur, came across a WhatsApp advertisement promoting a trading platform that claimed investors would receive double returns on their investments. Trusting the offer, he transferred ₹28,19,450 to the account provided by the fraudsters. After waiting for months without any profit or response, Satish realised he had been deceived and filed a complaint with the Avadi Commissioner of Police.

Following the Commissioner’s directive, the Cyber Crime Wing registered a case and launched an investigation. The probe led to the arrest of two suspects identified as K. Yogesh, 25, a hotel employee from Gummidipoondi in Tiruvallur district, and his sister Hemasree Reddy, 29, a B.E. (EEE) graduate, also from Gummidipoondi.

Police investigations revealed that the siblings had opened several bank accounts and sold them to cyber criminals who used them to conduct fraudulent transactions. In return, they received a commission for each account.

Both suspects were produced before the Poonamallee Magistrate Court and were later remanded in judicial custody at Puzhal Central Prison.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against online investment schemes that promise unusually high returns, warning that cybercriminals continue to exploit unsuspecting individuals through fake platforms and deceptive advertisements.
