Snap Inc., the parent company of Snapchat, has announced a partnership with San Francisco-based artificial intelligence firm Perplexity. Under this agreement, Perplexity’s AI chatbot will be integrated directly into the Snapchat app, allowing users to ask questions, explore topics, and learn about the world within the platform. The partnership will also bring financial benefits and new AI-driven features to Snap’s growing global user base.
In a newsroom post, Snap shared details of the collaboration, revealing plans to make Perplexity’s AI-powered answer engine available to Snapchat’s more than 943 million monthly active users worldwide. The chatbot will be featured alongside Snapchat’s existing My AI feature, expanding the app’s AI ecosystem and enhancing the way users interact with content and information.
“Our goal is to make AI more personal, social, and fun – woven into the fabric of your friendships, Snaps, and conversations. This partnership reflects our shared vision for the power of AI to enhance discovery and connection on Snapchat, and we look forward to collaborating with more innovative partners in the future,” said Evan Spiegel, CEO of Snap Inc.
Snap highlighted that over 75 per cent of its users are between 13 and 34 years old across 25 countries, positioning this demographic as a strong potential audience for Perplexity’s intelligent chatbot. Through this integration, users will gain direct access to Perplexity’s advanced AI capabilities to “ask questions, explore topics they care about, and learn about the world.”
As part of the agreement, Perplexity will pay Snap $400 million (approximately Rs. 3,547 crore) over one year, in a combination of cash and equity. The payments will begin once the global rollout of the chatbot commences. Snap is expected to start recording revenue from the partnership in 2026, aligning with the planned launch timeline for Perplexity’s integration.
“Perplexity’s mission is to support the world’s curiosity. Millions of people connect and discover the world through Snapchat. By bringing Perplexity to Snapchat, we’re able to serve that curiosity directly where it occurs,” said Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity.
The collaboration marks a significant step in Snap’s strategy to embed artificial intelligence more deeply within its social ecosystem, reinforcing its vision to make AI a core part of digital communication and discovery.
