Next iPhone Air model expected to feature a dual camera setup

A new report suggests that Apple is preparing a major upgrade for the successor to the iPhone Air, even though the first model did not meet the company’s sales expectations. Industry experts believe the Air series will shape the future direction of the iPhone lineup, and the next version appears to be moving in that direction with notable hardware changes.

A well known tipster from China, known online as Digital Chat Station, has claimed that Apple is planning to add a second rear camera to the upcoming iPhone Air model. If this happens, the device will feature two 48 megapixel cameras. One will use a wide sensor and the other will use an ultrawide lens, bringing the Air closer to the camera capabilities found in more advanced iPhones.

It is still unclear how Apple plans to place the second camera on the pill shaped bar that currently holds the main components. The tipster also mentioned that Apple may include a two times telephoto function through digital crop on the main sensor. This could offer partial telephoto performance without adding a dedicated telephoto camera like the ones seen in Pro models.

The tipster referred to the device as the iPhone 18 Air, but reports suggest Apple may simply call it the iPhone Air 2 to indicate it is the second generation. The post on a Chinese platform indicates that the new model will continue to use a six point five inch screen and the same runway style design as the first version. It may keep the shiny metal frame and glass back, although colour options could be refreshed.

The current iPhone Air uses the same A19 Pro chip found in the Pro models. This raises expectations that the next version could also adopt the upcoming Pro processor from the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.
