OpenAI has announced that users will soon be able to generate unlimited AI videos on Sora by purchasing additional credits. Bill Peebles, the head of Sora, shared on X that the company is introducing an option to buy “extra gens” once users reach their daily video generation limit. He explained that this feature will allow users to continue creating videos without waiting for their daily quota to reset.
Peebles also mentioned that users should take advantage of this high usage period, as the free generation limit will eventually be reduced to manage the growing number of users.
According to reports, a bundle of ten video generations on Sora will cost $4 through Apple’s App Store.
Currently, users on the free plan, ChatGPT Plus, or Teams subscription can create up to 30 videos per day, while Pro subscribers have a higher limit of 100 daily generations. Peebles said that advanced configurations such as Sora 2 Pro and longer video durations will use up more credits.
Those who want to go beyond their daily cap can purchase additional bundles for $4, which is around ₹350. There will be no restriction on how many extra bundles a user can buy.
Peebles explained that the change is necessary due to sustainability concerns. He said that offering unlimited free video generation is not viable in the long run, and that introducing a paid model will help OpenAI support heavy users and manage platform growth effectively. He added that without such measures, the company could face a shortage of GPUs.
OpenAI is also planning to test new monetisation models for Sora’s “Cameo” feature. This tool allows users to create videos featuring real people or fictional characters through text prompts. Peebles said that OpenAI will soon introduce a pricing system that charges extra for videos using copyrighted characters or identifiable likenesses.
