Tesla is set to showcase its Cybercab at the China International Import Expo in Shanghai from November 5 to 10, marking the robotaxi’s first appearance in the Asia-Pacific region. The announcement was made by Tesla’s Vice President Tao Lin in a Weibo post on Thursday.
The company has not yet confirmed whether it plans to launch the Cybercab on Chinese roads. The showcase, however, highlights Tesla’s growing interest in the world’s largest electric vehicle market, where autonomous mobility is rapidly gaining momentum.
The Cybercab, unveiled by Elon Musk in October last year, is an autonomous electric vehicle designed to operate as part of a robotaxi network. The model was initially launched in Austin in June under a limited-access programme, allowing only invited users to experience the vehicle. The test phase included human safety monitors on board to ensure operational reliability and data collection.
Tesla plans to begin mass production of the Cybercab next year, aiming to expand its footprint in the emerging self-driving mobility segment.
The upcoming Shanghai debut will place Tesla alongside leading Chinese technology companies such as Baidu and Pony AI, both of which have been running robotaxi trials across multiple cities in China for several years. These trials have helped advance China’s position as a frontrunner in autonomous driving technology.
As Tesla brings its Cybercab to the global stage, the Shanghai event is expected to draw significant attention from industry experts, investors, and technology enthusiasts, highlighting the company’s ambition to redefine urban mobility through AI-driven automation.
