The Trump administration has started tearing down the East Wing of the White House to build a grand new ballroom. The project, estimated at $300 million, is being completely funded through private, tax-deductible donations made to the nonprofit Trust for the National Mall. President Donald Trump has promised that no taxpayer money will be used for this construction.
A recently released donor list shows that some of the world’s biggest technology companies are contributing to the project. Among the 37 listed donors are Meta Platforms, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Amazon—firms that also hold major federal contracts.
Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has pledged large-scale investments in the United States, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg attending a White House dinner for tech leaders in September. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced plans to invest $100 billion in domestic manufacturing, which aligns with the administration’s goals for economic growth.
Alphabet, Google’s parent company, has agreed to allocate $22 million of a recent $24.5 million settlement with the administration toward the ballroom’s construction. Microsoft, another major donor, maintains multibillion-dollar government contracts and plays a key role in national cybersecurity and AI programs.
Amazon, founded by Jeff Bezos, has also contributed to the project and continues to secure major federal contracts, including partnerships with the Pentagon. Other firms supporting the initiative include Palantir Technologies, which has expanded its surveillance and border-security contracts under the Trump administration, as well as crypto companies Coinbase and Ripple. Both have shown strong interest in the administration’s efforts to promote looser digital asset regulations and position the United States as a digital finance hub.
Micron Technology, a leading US chip manufacturer, recently announced a $200 billion domestic investment, while HP contributed to the ballroom fund after donating $50,000 to Trump’s 2025 inaugural committee.
The White House has not disclosed the size of all 37 donations. President Trump has also stated that he will personally contribute to the construction of the new ballroom.
