Microsoft has introduced the Copilot Fall Release, a major update designed to make artificial intelligence more useful and more connected to everyday life. The update was announced on Thursday, October 23. The company said this launch will help users focus on real priorities instead of spending more time on screens.
Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, said that this new change will reset the way people think about AI. “There is a lot of noise around AI headlines, hype, fear. We are betting on optimism in a time of cynicism,” he said. He added that technology should support people and not control them.
Microsoft calls Copilot an AI companion. It is designed to help users think, create, and plan based on personal needs. It can remember what matters, respond to feedback and support real social connections.
One of the biggest new features is Groups. It allows up to 32 people to chat together and work on ideas with Copilot summarising conversations, suggesting ideas and helping assign tasks. The company believes this will show how well AI can support social interaction.
For creativity, a feature called Imagine lets people explore and remix AI images together in a shared space. This encourages teamwork instead of working alone with a chatbot.
The latest update also introduces Mico, a custom avatar that can change colour, move, and react with warmth in conversations. Voice interactions are also designed to feel more natural.
A new conversation style called real talk helps challenge ideas while being polite and respectful. Copilot can now remember past details such as personal events or ongoing work. Users stay in control and can edit or delete anything from memory whenever they want.
Copilot can search across personal apps using natural language. Supported services include OneDrive, Outlook, Gmail, Google Drive and Google Calendar. Microsoft said that privacy protections remain a priority.
Copilot is also more integrated into Edge and Windows. On Edge, Copilot Mode becomes a hands free assistant that can analyse open tabs, summarise pages, and help with tasks such as bookings. On Windows 11, voice activation and a redesigned home screen make it easier to continue past conversations and access files.
New in house AI models aim to improve Copilot across devices. The update will roll out first in the United States and then in the United Kingdom and Canada. Microsoft said this is the start of a future focused on human centred AI that “gets you back to your life.”
