Apple unveils M5 chip with new iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro

Apple on Wednesday introduced its new M5 chip, powering the latest iPad Pro, MacBook Pro, and Vision Pro. Preorders are now open, with shipping and in-store availability set for October 22.

The M5 chip delivers faster performance than its predecessors, with over four times the peak GPU compute power compared to the M4. Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Technologies, said the chip “ushers in the next big leap in AI performance for Apple silicon.”

The new iPad Pro benefits from the M5’s AI capabilities, offering up to 3.5 times the AI performance of last year’s model and 5.6 times faster than the iPad Pro with M1. It also features Apple’s C1X cellular modem for up to 50 percent faster data speeds, the N1 chip for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and Thread connectivity, faster storage read and write speeds, and quicker charging—up to 50 percent in 30 minutes.

With iPadOS 26, the iPad Pro now offers more intuitive window management, a Preview app, and folder creation for better organization. Pricing starts at $999 for the 11-inch model and $1,299 for the 13-inch, available in black and silver.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro also receives significant upgrades. It offers up to 1.6 times better graphics performance, a higher memory bandwidth of 153Gbps, improved storage speeds, and battery life of up to 24 hours. The price starts at $1,599, and it comes in space black and silver. The M5 chip enhances display rendering by 10 percent, supports refresh rates up to 120Hz, accelerates AI features by 50 percent, and adds up to 2.5 hours of general use or three hours of video playback.

The Vision Pro headset now includes a Dual Knit Band for a more comfortable fit, available in small, medium, and large. Pricing remains at $3,499. The updated Vision Pro release aligns with reports that Apple is focusing more on smart glasses development rather than a full VR headset overhaul.

With the M5 chip, Apple continues to push its devices toward higher performance, longer battery life, and enhanced AI capabilities across tablets, laptops, and AR/VR hardware.
