Nokia to expand India presence with enterprise and data centre focus

Nokia, the Finnish telecom equipment maker, is planning a major expansion in India as it looks beyond its traditional service provider business. The company aims to strengthen its presence in enterprise, data centre, and hyperscaler markets to drive future growth.

According to a recent report, Nokia is preparing to launch millimetre wave fixed wireless access products in India within the next six months. The company has also set a goal to double its enterprise and hyperscaler business in the next three years.

Partnerships across key sectors

Prashant Malkani, Country Head for Network Infrastructure, Asia Pacific, said that Nokia is finalising partnerships in key sectors such as banking, utilities, and defence. Several of these deals are expected to be completed by the end of the year. Despite the diversification, Malkani said that service providers will remain Nokia’s core business.

India’s growing technology ecosystem

India’s enterprise networking market was valued at 16 billion dollars in 2024 and is projected to grow to 22 billion dollars by 2030. The private 5G segment is also expected to expand significantly, from 3.86 billion dollars in 2025 to 17.5 billion dollars by 2030.

The country’s data centre market is growing rapidly, with capacity rising from 350 megawatts in 2019 to 1,263 megawatts in 2025. It is projected to exceed 3.5 gigawatts by 2030, supported by investments worth 25 to 30 billion dollars. “Hyperscalers, global and Indian data centre operators, telcos, and tech firms are driving this growth,” said Vinish Bawa, Partner and Telecom Sector Leader at PwC India.

Focus areas for expansion

Nokia is focusing on three strategic priorities to capture this growth opportunity. These include developing secure and quantum-safe networks, ensuring scalability and reliability of enterprise systems, and enabling low-latency connectivity for data centres and private 5G. The company plans to use its global research and development centre in Bangalore and manufacturing partnerships in Noida to support its India operations.

Outlook and challenges

Bawa described Nokia’s plan to double its enterprise business within three years as ambitious but achievable. “With India’s enterprise 5G and private network market projected at 2 billion dollars by FY27, vendors with early hyperscaler partnerships, verticalised solutions, and local integration capabilities have a credible path to such growth,” he said. He added that the main challenge lies in execution and ecosystem alignment.

As India’s digital infrastructure and AI-driven enterprise demand continue to expand, Nokia’s strategic shift signals a renewed commitment to one of its fastest-growing global markets.
