Civil engineer defrauded of lakh in fake overseas job scheme

A civil engineer in Delhi was allegedly defrauded of ₹2.41 lakh after being promised a high paying job in Luxembourg. The fraudsters reportedly gained the family’s trust by supplying forged documents, including fake visas and falsified job offer letters. The Aman Vihar Police have registered a case and launched a full investigation into the matter.

The complaint was filed by Manzar Alam, whose son, Umar Farooq, was actively seeking employment abroad. Alam came across an advertisement in a WhatsApp group offering international job placements. After making contact, they were approached by a man named Rasooluddin Malik, who claimed he could secure a civil engineering position for Umar in Luxembourg for a total fee of ₹3 lakh, covering visa and airfare.

The Deception Process

Persuaded by Malik’s professional manner, the family began making payments. The process started on January 1, 2025. Malik quickly demanded an initial ₹11,000 for a medical examination, followed by three large installments totaling ₹2.41 lakh by the end of February. During this time, the accused sent a fraudulent job offer letter to Umar, seemingly confirming the process.

In March 2025, Malik provided Umar with a forged Luxembourg visa. He assured the family that flight tickets would be issued by April 9. However, the accused then began avoiding calls. Suspecting a fraud, the family verified the documents with the Luxembourg Embassy, which confirmed that both the visa and the offer letter were forgeries. Attempts to retrieve the money failed when cheques issued by Malik bounced.

Police Action and Expert Warning

The Aman Vihar Police confirmed that they are actively investigating the accused’s bank transactions and digital communications. An officer stated, “All evidence is being reviewed, and the suspect’s movements are being traced. Appropriate legal action will follow based on findings.”

Authorities warn that such cases of international employment fraud are rising, often exploiting social media platforms to target young, educated professionals. Experts strongly advise citizens to always verify any overseas job offers through official embassy channels before sharing sensitive documents or making any payments. Strict action will be taken against the accused to dismantle these fraudulent networks.
