Hinduja Renewables Energy Private Limited (HREPL), part of the Hinduja Group, has appointed Deepak Thakur as its Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. The appointment is effective from October 1, 2025. He succeeds Sumit Pandey, who has stepped down from the leadership position.
Thakur is an industry veteran, bringing over three decades of diverse experience across renewable energy, infrastructure, industrial products, and electronics. Throughout his career, he has held leadership roles at prominent organizations including the Mahindra Group, Reliance, Sterling and Wilson, L and T, Honeywell, and Thermax.
His comprehensive background spans the full renewable energy value chain. This includes solar, wind, storage, and hybrid systems, covering project development, EPC, operations and maintenance (O and M), upstream technology, manufacturing, and asset monetization through InvITs.
Shom Hinduja, Chairman of HREPL, commented on the new leadership. “As we continue to build on our aspiration to be a leading player in the renewable energy domain, Deepak’s experience and leadership will be pivotal in our journey ahead. We are happy to have Deepak on board and look forward to collaboratively building Hinduja Renewables. I would also like to thank Sumit for his foundational contribution to Hinduja Renewables and wish him well for the future.”
Thakur expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, “It is a privilege to be part of the Hinduja Group. The group’s deep commitment to renewables aligns strongly with India’s energy transition and I look forward to being part of this exciting journey of impact and growth.”
A devoted advocate of clean energy and sustainability, Thakur contributed significantly to India’s policy framework. In 2009, he helped formulate the National Solar Thermal Policy, which laid the groundwork for India’s clean energy roadmap. Thakur holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pune and an MBA from Symbiosis Institute of Business Management.
