At GITEX Global 2025, Dubai is set to unveil its first glimpse of the AI-powered Trackless Tram alongside 10 other smart mobility initiatives. The event, taking place from October 13 to 17 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, will host over 6,800 companies from 180 countries and attract more than 200,000 visitors, including representatives from over 400 government entities.
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is using the platform to highlight 11 innovative projects that reflect its vision for a smarter, AI-driven transport system. “Our projects reflect the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai to position Dubai as the smartest and happiest city in the world,” said Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA. “We are leveraging AI and big data analytics to deliver predictive, proactive, and integrated transport services that enhance quality of life for residents and visitors alike.”
The Trackless Tram is the highlight of RTA’s showcase. Unlike conventional trains, it operates without fixed tracks, using optical navigation, LiDAR, GPS, and camera-based guidance to follow painted lines on dedicated lanes. Fully electric and autonomous, the tram can carry up to 300 passengers at speeds up to 70 km/h, with a single battery charge covering 100 km. It will be deployed across eight locations in Dubai and integrates seamlessly with the existing smart transport network, including the driverless Dubai Metro and the Dubai Tram.
Other key RTA projects include:
- Smart Connected Vehicles Network: AI-powered traffic management reducing delays by 25% and operational costs by 30%
- AutoCheck 360: Automated vehicle inspections cutting inspection time from 17 to 7 minutes
- Smart Mobility Platform for Safe Cities: IoT system monitoring commercial vehicles for safer roads
- Safe Tracks Rail Inspection System: Laser scanning and computer vision reducing rail inspection times by 70%
- Aerial Taxi (Joby S4): Urban air taxi cutting airport to Palm Jumeirah travel from 45 minutes to 10 minutes
- AI Factory: R&D hub transforming ideas into practical AI-driven mobility solutions
- Interactive Smart Kiosks & Digital Channels: Enhancing user experience with live support, trip planning, and real-time alerts
RTA’s participation at GITEX 2025 demonstrates Dubai’s commitment to integrating AI, automation, and smart infrastructure to build a sustainable, connected, and future-ready city.
