The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches at nearly 40 locations across Delhi NCR, Haryana, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Kerala, and West Bengal in connection with a large-scale transnational cyber-enabled digital arrest fraud. The searches were carried out as part of the agency’s ongoing Operation Chakra V.
According to the CBI, the raids led to the discovery of a domestic facilitation network that was actively involved in providing mule bank accounts and operating parallel hawala channels to layer and transfer the proceeds of crime generated through the fraud.
In an official statement, the agency said that the digital arrest fraud network was being operated from foreign locations, including Cambodia. The CBI registered a comprehensive FIR after receiving complaints from nine victims who had fallen prey to this cyber-enabled scam.
Following the registration of the FIR, the CBI conducted an extensive investigation focusing on the mule accounts and telecommunication channels used by the fraudsters to target victims. Through this detailed probe, the agency identified nearly 40 individuals who were allegedly part of the organised cybercrime network behind the digital arrest scheme.
The operation marks another significant step in India’s ongoing fight against cybercrime, as the CBI continues to dismantle organised networks involved in transnational frauds and digital financial scams.
