The Yamuna Expressway corridor near Delhi is fast becoming a key centre for electronics manufacturing, with major investments led by a joint venture between HCL and Foxconn to build a semiconductor plant worth ₹43,706 crore. Other prominent companies, including Amber Technology, Micromax and Dixon, are also establishing facilities in the region.
According to government sources, the Uttar Pradesh (UP) government is ensuring uninterrupted electricity and water supply, while the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) is actively supporting these companies. Successful implementation of this initiative could transform UP into a major industrial hub, creating tens of thousands of jobs and strengthening India’s role in the global semiconductor supply chain. The government added that by combining large-scale manufacturing with AI-focused urban development, UP aims to establish an industrial and innovation-driven model.
Strong support from both the Central and State governments, especially in the Jewar area connecting Noida and Greater Noida, is driving this transformation, supported by robust IT and industrial infrastructure.
A senior government official stated, “Uttar Pradesh has already demonstrated substantial capacity in electronics manufacturing. The State hosts nearly 200 Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) companies and ranks first in India for consumer electronics exports, totalling approximately ₹37,000 crore in the financial year 2023-24. The success of Noida’s smartphone and consumer electronics ecosystem offers a proven framework for attracting global players and efficiently scaling high-tech production.”
The State’s long-term vision extends beyond semiconductor manufacturing. Under the “Viksit UP-2047” initiative, Uttar Pradesh aims to become a global hub for Artificial Intelligence, deep technology and digital innovation by 2047. Plans include the creation of AI-focused cities in Lucknow and Kanpur, promoting international research collaborations and developing innovation incubation centres across all divisions.
The official added, “By linking semiconductor manufacturing with broader technology initiatives, the State seeks to create an integrated, high-tech ecosystem capable of competing with established hubs in Gujarat and Tamil Nadu.”
To attract global investors, UP has introduced several special schemes offering capital and interest subsidies, land rebates, exemptions on stamp duty and electricity charges, and support for research and development. The State also reimburses costs for standalone R&D centres and contributes to setting up Centres of Excellence in semiconductor technology. These initiatives aim to strengthen manufacturing, build a skilled workforce and advance research, reinforcing UP’s ambition to become a global semiconductor hub.
Recently, the Minister of Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, urged all State governments to support electronic hardware manufacturing through favourable local policies. He highlighted that the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS) aims to integrate India into the global electronics supply chain and enhance domestic value addition.
