Bharti Airtel secures multi-year contract to strengthen cybersecurity for Indian railways

Bharti Airtel Ltd. announced on Monday, October 6, that its business division has won a multi-year contract from the Indian Railway Security Operations Centre.

Under this contract, Airtel will design, build, implement and operate a new, multi-layered cybersecurity ecosystem that will provide 24×7, 365-day protection. This airtel system will act as a resilient defence barrier to safeguard the IT backbone of Indian Railways, ensuring uninterrupted, secure, and smooth digital operations.

The enhanced security infrastructure is expected to benefit over one billion Indians by improving data safety for seamless ticket booking, payments, train tracking and other digital services.

Sharat Sinha, CEO and director of Airtel Business, said, “Our robust security layer will advance security efficiency in ticketing and data management, shield all railway digital operations from evolving cyber threats while delivering safe and seamless digital services to millions of daily railway commuters.”

Dilip Kumar, Executive Director of the Railway Board, added that the establishment of the Indian Railway Security Operations Centre will provide a centralised hub to continuously monitor railway assets, detect and respond to cybersecurity threats efficiently, gather threat intelligence, and ensure effective collaboration with national cybersecurity agencies.

Shares of Bharti Airtel were trading 0.2 percent higher at ₹1,899.8 per share around 12:20 pm. The stock has recorded a 19.1 percent gain so far this year.
