WhatsApp Developing Incognito Mode for Meta AI Conversations

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new Incognito Mode for chats with its Meta AI chatbot, according to details shared by a feature tracker. The privacy-focused feature, spotted in a recent beta version, is said to resemble Private Browsing on Safari and Incognito Mode on Google Chrome. It is still under development and not yet accessible to beta testers.

The feature was identified in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.28.1. Once introduced, Incognito Mode could allow users to chat privately with Meta AI without recording their conversation history. Meta AI will not use the queries for training or personalisation, giving users more control over their data while maintaining confidentiality.

When enabled, the feature will automatically delete the chat history when a user exits the conversation. This will allow users to discuss sensitive topics without worrying about their data being stored or misused. A screenshot shared by the tracker shows that WhatsApp will prompt users with a message stating “no personalisation, no history, and no memory” for future conversations with the AI chatbot. The option to enable Incognito Mode will appear alongside current options to start or view chats.

The development comes alongside reports that WhatsApp is also testing a voice chat mode with Meta AI. This feature, available to some beta testers in Android version 2.25.21.21, allows two-way voice interactions with the chatbot. Users can initiate the conversation by tapping the Meta icon in the chat window. The voice chat mode is said to offer personalisation and flexibility options for users.

The rollout of Incognito Mode and voice chat features is expected in future updates, reflecting WhatsApp’s continued focus on privacy and enhanced AI-driven experiences.
