Apple Vision Pro 2 Expected to Launch with Faster Chip, Redesigned Strap, and Enhanced AI

Apple’s Vision Pro, launched earlier in 2024, may soon get an upgrade with the Vision Pro 2. Reports suggest the new headset will bring three major improvements: a faster processor, a redesigned strap, and enhanced AI performance.

On the processing side, details are still emerging. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts the Vision Pro 2 will feature Apple’s new M5 chip, while Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman suggests it could use the M4 instead. Regardless of the choice, the next-generation headset will have a processor at least two generations ahead of the original, with the potential for three if the M5 is selected. Full specifications of the M5 are expected to be revealed soon alongside the new iPad Pro launch.

Weight has been a common complaint with the original Vision Pro, with users reporting neck strain during extended use. While a significantly lighter model may not arrive until 2027, Sources reports that Vision Pro 2 will include a redesigned strap to improve comfort. Although details are limited, the updated strap could enhance usability for long sessions.

AI performance is the third key upgrade. Gurman notes that Apple is testing a custom build of the new chip with additional neural engine cores. The current Vision Pro has a 16-core neural engine, while the new version is expected to handle AI-driven tasks more efficiently, improving real-time image processing and complex virtual environments.

Overall, the Vision Pro 2 is likely to be a specification refresh rather than a full redesign. However, the new strap could be the most noticeable improvement, addressing one of the headset’s main criticisms. It may also be available as a separate purchase, allowing current Vision Pro users to upgrade without buying the full headset priced at $3,499.
