WhatsApp has introduced a series of new features designed to make conversations more interactive and personalised. The updates include Live and Motion Photos, AI-generated chat themes and backdrops, new sticker packs, improved group search and document scanning on Android.
Users on iOS and Android can now share Live Photos and Motion Photos, making it easier to capture and share real-life moments with sound and movement. These features aim to bring more authentic experiences to chats.
Meta AI integration has also been expanded. Users can now design their own chat themes with Meta AI and create unique AI-generated backdrops for video calls or while sharing pictures and videos in conversations. These features allow people to set their favourite environments or try out entirely new settings, although availability may be limited as the rollout continues.
WhatsApp has also added new sticker packs like Fearless Bird, School Days and Vacation, helping users express emotions and moods in a fun and creative way without needing words.
To make group navigation simpler, users can now search for groups by entering the name of a contact they share in common. This feature helps when group names are too unique or hard to recall.
On Android, a new document scanning tool has been added, allowing users to scan, crop, save and send documents directly within WhatsApp. The feature was already available for iPhone users and now extends to Android devices.
In addition, WhatsApp is testing threaded replies for both group and individual chats. With this feature, replying to a message automatically creates a new thread, offering a clearer structure for conversations. While older replies will not be included initially, they will be organised within the new thread going forward. This feature is currently in beta testing and is expected to roll out more widely in the coming weeks or months.
