Accenture Restructures Workforce to Strengthen AI Capabilities Amid Rising Revenues

Accenture has started restructuring its global workforce to sharpen its AI capabilities after reporting USD 69.7 billion in revenue for the year, a 7 percent increase from 2024. The company is combining workforce reductions with targeted hiring and aggressive upskilling in AI-focused roles to stay ahead in the evolving technology landscape. CEO Julie Sweet emphasised that “AI and upskilling are now at the core of everything we do,” highlighting the strategic importance of AI for the firm.

Supported by a USD 1 billion business optimisation programme, Accenture aims to generate savings that will be reinvested in innovation and employee development. Chief Financial Officer Angie Park said, “We expect savings of over USD 1 billion from our business optimisation program, which we expect to reinvest in our business and in our people.” The company has also allocated USD 865 million for severance and restructuring, reflecting the scale of changes underway.

Reskilling employees is a central part of the transition, with 550,000 staff already trained in generative AI basics. Simultaneously, Accenture is expanding its AI workforce, now employing 77,000 AI and data professionals, nearly double the 40,000 recorded in 2023. Sweet added, “Our No. 1 strategy is upskilling… where we don’t have a viable path for skilling, we are exiting people so we can get more of the skills we need.”

Much of Accenture’s growth is driven by organisations seeking AI transformation. Sweet highlighted that “early investment in AI is paying off,” noting that while many firms are still “not yet AI-ready,” Accenture is positioning itself as the partner of choice.

The restructuring reflects a broader global trend, where AI adoption is reshaping corporate growth strategies and workforce planning. Accenture is preparing its employees for an AI-first future while investing in innovation and skill development to maintain a competitive edge.
