Cybercrime Crackdown in Haryana: Daily Arrests Average 22, Recovery Peaks

Haryana Police have reported a major surge in cybercrime enforcement, making an average of 22 arrests per day under cyber-related offences, up from 14 daily arrests in 2024.

Senior IPS officer Sibash Kabiraj, who also serves as Commissioner of Police, Panchkula, shared these figures during a state-level cyber awareness and training session at a Government Post Graduate College in Panchkula. He highlighted that since September 2023, the state has blocked over 3.43 lakh fake accounts and arrested more than 50 bank officials involved in fraud. The recovery rate of money lost to cybercrime has jumped from 8 per cent in September 2023 to 46 per cent in August 2025.

Key achievements include the Mobile Blocking Unit blocking 1.24 lakh fake SIM cards in 2024. The 1930 cyber helpline was upgraded under DGP Shatrujeet Kapoor, with staff increasing from 12 to 70 and terminals from 6 to 54, integrated with Dial-112. Sixteen nodal officers from 11 major banks were deployed for real-time coordination.

Kabiraj stressed that the growing digital ecosystem in education, commerce, communication, and governance has brought challenges such as phishing, OTP frauds, digital arrest scams, social media hacking, and misinformation. He reaffirmed the Haryana Police’s mission-mode approach to tackle these threats effectively.

The state’s efforts have gained national recognition. On September 10, 2024, Haryana Police received the top rank for cybercrime prevention and helpline operations, and on Independence Day 2025, Kabiraj was awarded the President’s Police Medal for his contributions to cybersecurity.

The awareness session included a short film on cyber safety and a street play titled Freedom from Cyber Crime, covering KYC frauds, honeytraps, and digital arrests. Students also participated in cyber quizzes and poster-making competitions to promote vigilance and digital responsibility.
