Apple is reportedly using an internal AI chatbot, called Veritas, to test and refine features for the next version of Siri. The tool, currently available only to Apple employees, is designed to experiment with upcoming upgrades and provide structured feedback before the new Siri is released.
According to reports, Veritas functions in a way similar to other popular chatbots, allowing employees to type queries, hold back-and-forth conversations, revisit earlier chats, and test extended dialogues across different topics. While it offers features that mirror ChatGPT and Gemini, Apple does not plan to release Veritas to consumers. Instead, it will remain an internal testing platform to help fine-tune Siri’s enhanced capabilities, such as searching through personal data and performing in-app actions like photo editing.
The tool is said to make internal testing more efficient by offering a chatbot-style interface that Apple staff can use to assess how well Siri handles various queries. This approach allows the company to explore whether a chatbot model has long-term value for its products.
Apple executives have previously expressed doubts about launching standalone chatbot interfaces. At an earlier developer conference, the company’s software head stated that Apple’s vision is to weave AI into everyday tasks rather than create “a bolt-on chatbot on the side.”
The new Siri is expected to combine Apple’s proprietary AI models with external systems such as Google’s Gemini. Reports suggest Apple is developing two versions of the system, with plans to roll out the upgraded assistant next spring. The company is also working on a separate initiative, codenamed Answers, aimed at building a ChatGPT-like search experience powered by its own AI technology.
