Tirumala is set to host India’s first Artificial Intelligence integrated Command Control Centre, created to improve crowd management and ensure the safety of pilgrims in the Tirumala temple town.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) has established the facility at Vaikuntham Queue Complex 1 with support from NRI donors. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will inaugurate the centre on Thursday.
The Integrated Command Control Centre will bring advanced surveillance and monitoring systems onto a single platform. A giant digital screen will display live CCTV feeds from several locations across Tirumala, monitored around the clock by a dedicated team of over 25 technical staff to provide real-time updates and enable immediate response.
According to officials, the AI-powered system can track crowd density from Alipiri onwards, calculate waiting times in queues, and map occupancy in compartments. It will also use 3D visuals to monitor pilgrim flow, with red spot alerts indicating overcrowded zones. The system can even analyse expressions and movements to help detect signs of discomfort or distress among devotees in Tirumala.
Facial recognition will be used to identify individuals, trace missing persons, and prevent thefts or untoward incidents. In the event of emergencies, the system will suggest the nearest safe exit routes to support smooth evacuation. Beyond physical surveillance, the ICCC is also equipped to oversee online activity, including blocking cyberattacks, stopping misinformation, and preventing defamatory content against TTD on social media.
