OpenAI is reportedly collaborating with Apple supplier Luxshare-Tech to create a new consumer device that is compact, context-aware, and designed for deep integration with its advanced AI models, according to reports. This initiative comes after OpenAI’s $6.5 billion acquisition of hardware startup io Products, founded by former Apple designer Jony Ive, signaling the company’s intention to expand from software into consumer hardware. Luxshare-Tech, known for assembling Apple’s iPhones and AirPods, is expected to support large-scale manufacturing, while OpenAI has also engaged China-based Goertek for components such as speaker modules to strengthen the hardware development.
