Google is expanding the reach of its Gemini AI by adding it to Chrome on Mac and Windows desktops. The move follows earlier rollouts of Gemini on Android, iOS and Gmail, and brings smarter browsing, search and productivity tools directly into the popular web browser.
In a blog post, the company said Gemini in Chrome has been built “across multiple levels so it can better anticipate your needs, help you understand more complex information and make you more productive when you browse the web.”
With the update, users can ask the AI chatbot complex questions, pull information from web pages, manage multiple tabs and even schedule meetings or search for YouTube videos. Chrome will also allow users to access Google Search’s AI Mode straight from the address bar and change compromised passwords with a single click.
Google added that it plans to introduce agentic capabilities in the coming months, allowing Gemini to handle routine tasks like “booking a haircut or ordering your weekly groceries” and “act on your behalf on web pages” so that users can focus on other priorities.
Gemini will also improve tab management by comparing prices across open tabs, summarising content or consolidating travel details into a single itinerary. Users will be able to ask questions such as “what was the website that I saw the walnut desk on last week?” or “what was that blog I read on back-to-school shopping?” to quickly locate past browsing activity.
For now, Gemini in Chrome is only available to users in the United States who use the browser in English. The company confirmed that these features will expand to other regions in the future.
