Noida International Airport at Jewar to Open on October 30, Connecting 10 Cities in First Phase

The Noida International Airport in Jewar is set to be inaugurated on October 30, with commercial operations expected to begin within 45 days, initially connecting at least 10 cities, Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu announced.

Speaking at the Yatri Sewa Diwas event at Hindon airport in Ghaziabad, Naidu said, “We are trying to push the inauguration of the Noida airport so that we can see it happen very soon. Right now the date we have decided on is October 30, and within 45 days we can see the operations. The airlines are also excited to operate from Jewar airport, and the area has huge potential. At least 10 cities will be connected in the first phase.”

He added that the airport will also play a strategic role in cargo operations. “We see it as more than civil aviation connectivity it will be a major cargo hub as well.”

Spread over 1334 hectares, Jewar will be the second full-fledged commercial airport in the National Capital Region after Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport. Phase one will include a single runway and a terminal with an annual capacity of 12 million passengers, expected to handle six million passengers in the first year. Over four phases, the airport is planned to scale to 70 million passengers annually.

Construction is in its final stage. The 3900-metre runway and ATC tower are complete, while the terminal structure is nearly finished. Aerobridges, baggage systems, e-gates, seating, lighting, toilets and galleries are in place, with final interior works ongoing. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation must issue the aerodrome licence after October.

Yamuna International Airport Private Limited confirmed the core infrastructure is ready. The Airports Authority of India has begun commissioning ATC systems and conducting Operational Readiness and Transition trials including simulations and familiarisation for airlines and ground handlers. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security has granted security clearance for airside infrastructure.

IndiGo will serve as the launch carrier, with Akasa Air also planning operations. Initial flights are expected to major cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad and Kolkata.

Naidu also highlighted initiatives across Indian airports, including free WiFi for all passengers and library and kids’ facilities in the coming months.

At Hindon airport, which began operations in October 2019, connectivity has expanded to 16 cities. The terminal is reaching capacity and expansion plans are underway, including additional land for new parking bays.
