Apple is reportedly preparing a new MacBook Pro featuring an OLED display with touchscreen support, according to recent market insights. Analysts suggest mass production could begin by the end of 2026, with a possible launch in early 2027.
Touchscreen Technology to Bridge Gap with iPad
TF Securities International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared the prediction, stating that Apple plans to use on-cell touch technology to enable touchscreen functionality in the upcoming MacBook Pro. This move would bring the MacBook line closer to the iPad, narrowing the distinction between the two products. Kuo added that Apple has studied user interaction with tablets for years and believes touch controls could enhance productivity in specific scenarios.
Mark Gurman previously highlighted the potential of an OLED MacBook Pro in his newsletter. He noted that Apple’s timeline points to late 2026 or early 2027. While earlier reports suggested the laptop might ship with the M6 chip, recent insights indicate it will likely feature Apple’s upcoming M7 processor.
Gurman also commented on MacBook sales trends, noting that despite consistent hardware upgrades, many users are delaying purchases. The addition of an OLED touchscreen, he believes, could incentivise more customers to upgrade, potentially boosting MacBook sales.
Lower-Cost MacBook Model Also in Development
Alongside the premium MacBook Pro, Apple is reportedly developing a more affordable MacBook model, scheduled for production in the final quarter of 2025. Unlike the Pro version, this model may not include a touchscreen. Reports indicate it will feature Apple’s A18 Pro processor, the same chipset used in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, and a 13-inch display.
If Apple follows this roadmap, 2025 and 2026 could see significant changes to the MacBook lineup, with the company expanding its hardware strategy to target both premium and budget segments of the market.
