Google Discover to Show Social Media Posts from X and Instagram with New Follow Feature

Google is expanding its Discover feed by adding social media posts from X and Instagram, alongside YouTube Shorts, to bring a wider mix of content into one personalised space. The update will begin rolling out in the coming weeks, giving users access to social posts and traditional web articles together in their Discover feed. The company also plans to include more platforms in the future.

A new “Follow” feature is also being introduced, allowing users to subscribe to publishers and creators directly. By tapping on a creator’s name, users can view a preview of their articles, YouTube videos and social posts before choosing to follow them. This feature requires users to be signed into their Google account and started rolling out on Tuesday.

The Discover feed, which appears on the home screen of the Google app, curates content based on users’ web activity. Until now, users could only limit unwanted recommendations by selecting options such as “See less content like this” or “Not interested in [topic].”

The expansion comes after internal research showed that “people told us they enjoyed seeing a mix of content in Discover, including videos and social posts, in addition to articles.” Google has been testing social media integration since April 2025.

This move follows the company’s recent update to Search, which introduced preferred news sources in the Top Stories carousel, further reflecting its effort to give users more control over the content they see.
